Antonio Habas quits Inter Kashi with immediate effect

New Delhi: Antonio Habas has departed from Inter Kashi with immediate effect, as confirmed by sources to TimesofIndia.com. The Spanish tactician announced his decision on social media after a two-season tenure that saw the club earn promotion to the Indian Super League (ISL).

Social Media Announcement

On Instagram, Habas wrote: 'End of the chapter: Mission accomplished,' accompanied by the caption: 'Trust is built through keeping commitments, and unfortunately, when those commitments are not fulfilled, trust is lost.' The club later confirmed that Habas had a contract until the end of the season but chose to step away with just two matches remaining in the campaign.

Assistant Takes Over

Assistant coach Abhijit will take charge of the promoted side for their upcoming fixture against Mohun Bagan Super Giants on Tuesday. Habas joined Inter Kashi in 2024 and guided the club to the I-League title the following season, making him the only manager to have won both the I-League and the ISL titles.

Previous Criticism

The 68-year-old had made pointed remarks after a 0-3 defeat to Punjab FC last month. 'Inter Kashi is in a very, very complicated situation with a lot of problems in the club ... We need to talk about the situation of the players and staff with the owner of the club, because it's impossible to compete in the ISL,' he stated. 'I am very, very sad about this situation. We have been fighting since the last season 100 per cent, and now it's possible that the players and staff will not receive their salaries. It's impossible,' he added.

However, a club official attributed these comments to the club's difficult legal position resulting from legal challenges by Churchill Brothers. Inter Kashi currently sits 10th in the ISL standings and will conclude their season against SC Delhi on May 17.
