Star-Studded Opening Ceremony Announced for ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai

The International Cricket Council has unveiled a spectacular musical lineup for the official opening ceremony of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, set to take place in Mumbai on February 7th. Cricket fans attending the inaugural match at the stadium will be treated to performances by some of India's most celebrated artists before the first ball is bowled.

Global Stage for Indian Talent

The ceremony will feature popular rapper Badshah, Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi, neo-classical sitar virtuoso Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, and legendary percussionist Sivamani. This diverse ensemble represents a fusion of contemporary and traditional Indian music, promising an unforgettable prelude to the tournament.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Badshah stated in an official press release, "I'm incredibly excited to be part of this global celebration of sport, entertainment and culture. Music just like cricket brings people together and I can't wait to bring my energy to this incredible stage."

Artists Share Their Excitement

Rishab Rikhiram Sharma highlighted the significance of performing at such a prestigious international event. "I've always believed the sitar belongs in bold, unexpected spaces. Places that don't just change how people perceive it, but how they respect it. Opening for the ICC T20 World Cup wasn't something I imagined, but it's a powerful step in taking Indian music to a truly global stage. I'm thrilled to share my sound in this historic moment, and even more honoured to share the stage with maestro Sivamani alongside 60,000 fans in attendance!"

Sivamani echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the universal appeal of both music and cricket. "Music and cricket both speak a universal language. Performing at the T20 opening in Mumbai is an honour for me. It's a celebration of India's energy and love for the game, and I'm excited to connect with the audience through rhythm before the match begins."

India's Tournament Campaign and Historic Opportunity

The Indian cricket team finds itself in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States. Their campaign commences with a match against the USA in Mumbai on February 7th.

Should Team India successfully defend their title, they would achieve a historic milestone by becoming the first team ever to defend a T20 World Cup championship. This victory would also secure their third T20 World Cup trophy, establishing them as the most successful team in the tournament's history.
