BCCI to Honour T20 World Cup Champions and Cricket Legends at Naman Awards 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host a grand celebration at its annual 'Naman Awards' ceremony in Mumbai this Sunday, where the historic T20 World Cup-winning Indian team will be felicitated. Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, the team achieved a remarkable feat by securing the T20 World Cup title, marking a significant milestone in Indian cricket history.
Historic Felicitation of ICC Title-Winning Teams
In a first-of-its-kind event, the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 will highlight the felicitation of all five Indian teams that have clinched ICC titles in recent years. This includes the senior men's team that triumphed in the T20 World Cup, the women's team that won the ODI World Cup in 2025, the men's team that secured the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 champions, and the women's U-19 T20 World Cup team of 2025. The ceremony aims to celebrate these collective achievements and inspire future generations of cricketers.
India's T20 World Cup Triumph
Under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir, the Indian team defeated New Zealand by a massive 96 runs in the final held in Ahmedabad on March 8, 2026. This victory made India the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times, successfully defend the title, and achieve this milestone on home soil, showcasing their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
Individual Accolades for Cricketing Stars
The BCCI has officially confirmed several individual awards to be presented at the ceremony. Shubman Gill, India's Test and ODI captain, will receive the Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Cricketer (Men) for the 2024-25 season. Smriti Mandhana will be honoured as the Best International Cricketer (Women) for an impressive fifth time in her career, highlighting her consistent excellence.
Lifetime Achievement Awards for Legends
Former cricketing stalwarts Roger Binny and Rahul Dravid will be conferred with the prestigious Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, the BCCI's highest honour. Binny, a key member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team and later a coach, selector, and BCCI president, has made significant contributions to the sport. Dravid, renowned for scoring over 24,000 international runs, played a pivotal role in nurturing young talent and was the head coach during India's T20 World Cup win in 2024.
Additionally, former India captain Mithali Raj will receive the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for Women, recognising her outstanding career and leadership in women's cricket.
Domestic Cricket Honours
The ceremony will also celebrate achievements in domestic cricket. Ira Jadhav will be awarded the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for Best Woman Cricketer (Domestic), while Shafali Verma will be honoured as the Best Woman Cricketer in the Senior Domestic One-Day format. In the men's category, Ayush Mhatre will receive the Lala Amarnath Award for Best All-Rounder in domestic limited-overs competitions, and Harsh Dubey from Vidarbha will be recognised as the Best All-Rounder in the Ranji Trophy.
Recognition for State Associations
The Mumbai Cricket Association will be acknowledged as the best performing state association in BCCI domestic tournaments. This recognition comes after winning four titles and finishing as runners-up in two competitions during the season, underscoring their commitment to developing cricket at the grassroots level.
The Naman Awards 2026 promises to be a memorable event, celebrating both team and individual successes while honouring the legends who have shaped Indian cricket over the years.
