NEW DELHI: Nearly a year after a tragic stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 title celebrations, Bengaluru Police have issued a strict advisory ahead of the IPL 2026 final between RCB and Gujarat Titans, scheduled for Sunday.
With excitement building across the city as RCB chases their second IPL crown, authorities have urged fans to celebrate responsibly and avoid activities that could lead to crowding, public disorder, or safety concerns. Special security and traffic arrangements are being implemented to ensure that celebrations do not spiral out of control.
Key Directives in the Advisory
In its advisory, Bengaluru Police directed citizens not to gather in public places for celebrations immediately after the final result. The installation of LED screens facing public roads without prior approval has also been prohibited. The following measures have been outlined:
- No public celebrations after the final result.
- No LED screens facing roads without permission.
- No public live screenings outside malls, pubs, or establishments.
- No firecrackers or hazardous materials.
- No bike rallies, stunts, overspeeding, or road blockades.
- No unnecessary honking or traffic disruptions.
- No alcohol consumption in public places.
- No fights, public nuisance, or indecent behaviour.
- No rumours, hateful content, or provocative social media posts.
- Do not provoke or mock supporters of rival teams.
- Cooperate with police and traffic authorities.
- Celebrate responsibly and maintain public order.
Additional Restrictions and Warnings
Authorities further instructed malls, pubs, and other establishments not to organise live screenings in areas visible to the general public. The use of firecrackers and other hazardous materials during celebrations has also been banned. The police have cracked down on activities such as bike rallies, overspeeding, stunt riding, unnecessary honking, and road blockades, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.
Citizens have been advised against consuming alcohol in public places, creating disturbances, engaging in fights, or behaving indecently during post-match celebrations. The advisory also cautioned people against sharing provocative content, rumours, or hateful messages on social media. Fans have been urged not to target or mock supporters of rival teams, as such behaviour could trigger unnecessary confrontations.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
Appealing for public cooperation, Bengaluru Police stated that maintaining safety, peace, and law and order during the high-profile final is a collective responsibility. They urged fans to celebrate in a responsible manner, keeping in mind the tragic events of the previous year.
