Vozinha Overwhelmed by Global Support Ahead of Argentina Match
Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha took to Instagram to share an emotional note ahead of his team's FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 clash against defending champions Argentina. The veteran shot-stopper expressed gratitude for the widespread attention and support his team has received during their historic campaign.
"I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that has happened. Seeing millions of people from all corners of the globe reach out like this took me completely by surprise," Vozinha wrote on Instagram. He added, "I know it will take some time for me to process all of this and fully grasp the magnitude of what I'm experiencing."
Gratitude to Media and Fans
Vozinha specifically thanked @cazetv for amplifying his journey and connecting him with a global audience. "I want to thank @cazetv from the bottom of my heart for sparking this wave of affection and for making it all possible. I have no words to express my gratitude," he said. The goalkeeper described the experience as deeply humbling as Cape Verde prepare for the landmark knockout-stage encounter on July 4.
"From Cape Verde to the world--with true humility and a heart full of gratitude," the post concluded.
Cape Verde's Historic World Cup Run
Cape Verde finished second in their group with three points from three draws, behind Spain who topped with seven points. This achievement makes them the smallest nation ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup knockout stages. Their resilient performances have captured global attention.
Vozinha has entered an elite list in World Cup history, becoming only the third goalkeeper to register multiple clean sheets at the tournament after turning 40. According to OptaJose, he joins England's Peter Shilton (three clean sheets) and Italy legend Dino Zoff (two clean sheets) in this rare statistical feat. Vozinha has kept two clean sheets in the ongoing 2026 tournament.
