Chelsea have reportedly agreed to sell star footballer Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports. The Spanish defender is currently with the national team in the United States for the FIFA World Cup, and the transfer will be finalized after the tournament concludes.
Transfer Fee and Details
The deal is valued at £47.5 million upfront, with an additional £4.3 million in performance-related add-ons, bringing the total potential fee to £51.8 million. Chelsea originally signed Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion for £63 million four years ago.
Cucurella's Achievements at Chelsea
During his stint with Chelsea, Cucurella helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, he had previously criticized Chelsea's transfer policy after the club let go of Enzo Maresca at the start of the year.
Chelsea's Premier League Performance
Chelsea endured a disappointing Premier League campaign, finishing 10th in the standings with 14 wins, 10 draws, and 14 losses, accumulating just 52 points.
Real Madrid's Busy Summer
Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market following a trophyless 2025-26 season. Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president, and legendary manager Jose Mourinho, who previously led the club from 2010 to 2013 and won a La Liga title, has returned to the board. The club has already secured signings for Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva.
Cucurella's Preference for Real Madrid
Several clubs were interested in signing the Euro 2024 winner, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City. However, the former Barcelona player chose to join their arch-rivals, Real Madrid.
Potential Replacement for Chelsea
Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato, who joined Ajax last summer, is now considered a candidate to become Chelsea's first-choice left-back for the upcoming season.
