Czech Team Bus Stuck in Mexico, Players Walk to Training

The Czech Republic’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 took an unexpected turn when the team’s bus became stuck on a busy road in Zapopan, Mexico. The incident caused major traffic delays and left hundreds of local commuters stranded for nearly an hour.

Bus Blocked Highway in Zapopan

The large vehicle was attempting to turn into the team’s training complex when it became wedged, with part of the bus blocking a two-lane highway. Videos of the incident quickly spread online, showing long queues of cars, motorcycles, trucks, and vans waiting for the road to reopen. The disruption forced local authorities to close part of the highway while efforts were made to move the bus.

Eventually, the Czech players and staff abandoned the vehicle and completed the final stretch to the training ground on foot ahead of their opening match against South Korea. The unusual incident happened in Zapopan, where the Czech Republic squad is based before its first World Cup match. The team bus reportedly became trapped while trying to enter the training facility. The rear section of the vehicle remained stuck on the road, making it impossible for normal traffic to pass safely.

Traffic Chaos and Social Media Reaction

Mexican authorities quickly arrived at the scene. Despite several attempts to resolve the situation, the bus remained stuck for close to 60 minutes. During that time, traffic built up significantly in both directions. The delay created frustration among local drivers and also attracted widespread attention on social media. Many football fans reacted to the incident with humor, turning the mishap into one of the first viral moments of the tournament.

One fan wrote, “We’re already making a fool of ourselves before the kickoff.” Another posted, “We’re already the darlings of the whole championship. And they haven’t even seen us play yet.” A third fan commented, “This World Cup is worthy of a Hollywood movie; it hasn’t even started yet, but it’s already the worst World Cup in history.” One supporter joked, “This is uncalled for, use helicopters if the city routes are choke and busy.” Another simply wrote, “This is bad.”

Coach Remains Calm Amid Disruption

Despite the disruption, head coach Miroslav Koubek remained calm. The veteran manager later said he has experienced enough during his long coaching career not to be troubled by unexpected events. He explained that the team’s focus remains on tactics, discipline, and making the best use of its strengths against South Korea. The Czech Republic will face South Korea in Guadalajara in their first World Cup match. The nation is making its first appearance at the tournament since 2006.
