Deepti Sharma Fit for 3rd T20I, India Eye Series Win vs Sri Lanka
Deepti Sharma Fit, Available for 3rd T20I vs Sri Lanka

In a significant boost for the Indian women's cricket team, star all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been declared fully fit and available for selection for the crucial third T20 International against Sri Lanka. The news comes as India, leading the five-match series 2-0, aims to secure an unassailable lead.

Coach Confirms Deepti's Return

Head coach Amol Muzumdar delivered the positive update during the pre-match press conference on Thursday, the eve of the match. "Deepti is absolutely fine. She's available and fit," Muzumdar stated, putting to rest any concerns about her participation. Deepti had missed the second T20I in Visakhapatnam due to a mild fever, with the team management opting for caution. The BCCI medical team monitored her recovery closely as India secured a seven-wicket victory in her absence.

Team Combination and Player Updates

Muzumdar also addressed the status of other key players. On pacer Renuka Singh Thakur, who has not featured in the series yet, the coach clarified that her absence was strategic and not injury-related. "For Renuka, we were looking at a different combination. Also trying out a few things, and she's an integral part of this team... It's just about trying out a few things within the group," he explained.

The coach provided a reassuring update on in-form batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who sat out the practice session. Rodrigues has been in stellar form, scoring an unbeaten 69 in the series opener and 26 in the second match. Muzumdar attributed her absence to precautionary measures. "Jemimah had a little bit of an issue, but I think she's fine. She's just resting today... It's just a mandatory rest," he said, adding that the medical staff is monitoring her.

Focus on Sealing the Series

With the core of the team fit and available, the focus now shifts to the match strategy. When questioned about the final playing eleven, Muzumdar indicated that the decision would be made on the morning of the game. "We'll decide the playing XI on the morning of the game," he stated, keeping his cards close to his chest.

The return of Deepti Sharma, a vital cog with her off-spin bowling and lower-order batting, significantly strengthens India's balance. The team will be keen to maintain its winning momentum and clinch the series with two matches to spare, continuing their dominant run in the home series against Sri Lanka.
