Mohali: Four men have been arrested in Delhi in connection with the theft of 15 mobile phones during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur last week. The arrests were made following complaints from spectators who reported their phones stolen amid heavy crowding during the match on May 27.
Case Registered and Investigation
A case was registered on May 28 at the Mullanpur Garibdas police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Acting on technical inputs and intelligence, a special investigation team tracked the suspects and conducted a raid in Delhi on May 29, leading to their arrest.
Details of the Accused
The accused have been identified as Arbaz, Naveen Kumar alias Nikku, Hemraj alias Pucchi, and Abdul Mugni alias Miyaz. All are residents of Delhi and adjoining areas in Haryana.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed the location of the stolen devices, enabling the recovery of all 15 phones believed to belong to spectators. Officials are now investigating whether the accused are part of an organized gang that targets large public events. Their involvement in similar incidents elsewhere is also being verified.
Return of Recovered Phones
The recovered mobile phones will be returned to their rightful owners after proper identification and completion of legal formalities.
