Prime Minister Modi's Remarks
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to the fallen soldiers during the 136th episode of his monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat'. He stated that Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds everyone of the 'extraordinary courage' displayed by the armed forces in extreme challenges. 'The towering peaks of Kargil, the harsh weather, the enemy's challenge—every circumstance stood before our soldiers, but their resolve was greater than every challenge,' Modi said.
Shaurya Vijay Yatra
Modi highlighted the 'Shaurya Vijay Yatra', a motorcycle journey organized to honor the martyrs. The yatra began on July 14 from the National War Memorial in Delhi and will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass. Its motto is 'One Ride, One Nation, One Salute.' 'This journey reminds us that the sacrifices made for the nation can never be forgotten,' Modi added.
The Kargil War
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay during the 1999 Kargil War. The conflict began in May 1999 when intruders crossed the Line of Control and occupied Indian posts, aiming to cut off National Highway 1A. India responded with a meticulously planned counteroffensive, and after over two months of fierce fighting, every intruder was evicted. The war saw the loss of over 500 Indian soldiers, though their sacrifice ensured the nation's sovereignty.
