The New York Giants have endured a challenging period on the field over the last two seasons, struggling to maintain competitiveness. After finishing the most recent campaign with a disappointing 4-13 record, the franchise appears to be focusing heavily on reshaping its roster ahead of the upcoming season.
Giants Linked to Deebo Samuel
Just hours ago, Bleacher Report’s Joseph Zucker connected the New York Giants to Washington Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel. In a recent report, Zucker noted, “The New York Giants selected Notre Dame's Malachi Fields in the third round and traded up to get him. The team is presumably expecting a lot of him.” He added, “At the same time, New York brought Odell Beckham Jr. in for a physical earlier this week. Should the Giants want more experience in the passing game, Samuel would give them better bang for their buck than OBJ.”
However, the Giants have yet to officially respond to the trade speculation surrounding the 30-year-old wide receiver.
Deebo Samuel’s Recent Performance
Samuel has experienced an intriguing turn of events over the past two seasons. In 2024, he played for the San Francisco 49ers but failed to deliver strong performances. He also dealt with multiple injuries, including calf, wrist, oblique, and rib issues, along with a bout of pneumonia. He finished the season with 51 receptions for 670 yards and three receiving touchdowns in 15 games, adding 42 carries for 136 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Samuel later requested a trade, expressing frustration. The 49ers’ general manager, John Lynch, acknowledged that the team did not want to release him. Samuel eventually joined the Washington Commanders for the 2025 season, where he performed relatively well. He recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five receiving touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown.
While Samuel’s production has improved since 2024, attention now turns to where he will play next season. The Giants, seeking to bolster their offense, could make a move for the $17 million star.
