Gill, Kishan Lead India to 170-Run Win Over Afghanistan

India defeated Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second ODI at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on June 17, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing a massive target of 403 runs, Afghanistan were bowled out for 232 in 45 overs.

Afghanistan Innings

Afghanistan openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmatullah Gurbaz started aggressively, adding 52 runs for the first wicket. Gurbaz made 41 off 33 balls with seven fours and a six before Gurnoor Brar dismissed him in the eighth over. Earlier, debutant Prince Yadav had dismissed Gurbaz but it was called a no-ball by the third umpire, delaying his first international wicket.

Zadran was caught by Prince off Arshdeep Singh for 21. Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah put on 57 runs for the third wicket before Washington Sundar broke the partnership. Atal scored a promising 42 off 50 balls. Darwish Rasooli retired hurt due to cramps after facing a few deliveries.

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi started with a boundary but was bowled by Brar next ball. Prince got his maiden international wicket by dismissing Nangeyalia Kharote in the 31st over. Rashid Khan made 12 before Arshdeep dismissed him. Rahmat Shah fought valiantly, scoring 79 off 89 balls, but Prince Yadav took his wicket in the 45th over to end the innings. Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar took three wickets each, Prince claimed two, and Sundar got one.

India Innings

Earlier, India opted to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early by Mohammad Saleem Safi. Rohit Sharma then joined Shubman Gill, but Rashid Khan bowled Rohit for 48 after he hit six fours and two sixes. Ishan Kishan came in at number four and accelerated the scoring.

Gill reached his fifty with a six off Kharote in the 17th over and later completed his ninth ODI century off Bilal Sami in the 33rd over. Kishan also reached his second ODI century in the same over, hitting a hat-trick of boundaries off Sami. He scored 125 off 79 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes. The duo added 224 runs for the third wicket before Kharote broke the partnership.

Shreyas Iyer contributed 26 off 24 balls, while Gill scored 154 off 110 balls with 22 fours and two sixes before falling to Kharote. KL Rahul was out for a golden duck. Sundar scored a valuable 19 to help India reach 403 all out in 49.5 overs. Kharote took three wickets for Afghanistan.

India will face Afghanistan in the third and final ODI at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.
