Itanagar: The governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on Wednesday held a high-level ministerial meeting at the civil secretariat here to curb illegal liquor trade and plug revenue leakages. The primary objective was to forge a stronger inter-state cooperative framework for excise administration between the two neighboring states.
Joint Session Chaired by Deputy CM Chowna Mein
The joint session was chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who holds the portfolios of finance, tax, excise, and narcotics. The Assam delegation was led by Minister Atul Bora, accompanied by senior bureaucrats from the finance and excise departments of both states, according to an official statement from the deputy CM's office.
Historical Ties and Regional Governance
Welcoming the visiting team, Mein highlighted the historical ties shared by the two states, emphasizing that deep-rooted trust and cooperation are vital for seamless regional governance. He asserted that a unified approach is non-negotiable when dealing with modern governance challenges and cross-border statutory compliance.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both states to address illegal liquor trade effectively and ensure that revenue leakages are minimized. By strengthening inter-state coordination, the excise departments aim to enhance enforcement and compliance mechanisms.
This collaborative effort is expected to pave the way for more efficient administration and better control over the movement and sale of liquor across borders, benefiting both states economically and socially.
