Nashik Police Near ID of Woman in Suitcase Murder

Nashik: A day after the body of an unidentified woman was discovered stuffed inside a luggage bag near the Godavari river in Tapovan, the Adgaon police on Wednesday stated that they are nearing the establishment of her identity, with multiple leads currently under investigation.

Body Found Dumped by Roadside

The woman, believed to be approximately 30 years old, was found abandoned by the roadside on Tuesday morning, prompting a murder investigation.

Senior inspector Sanjay Pise said, “We are cross-referencing missing person reports from various police stations across the city, district, and neighboring areas based on the woman’s physical description. Additionally, we are reviewing CCTV footage from roads leading to the location where the bag was discovered.”

Cause of Death Confirmed

Postmortem results have confirmed that the victim died due to violent neck asphyxia, indicating she was strangled.

The police reported that the body had been wrapped in a grain bag before being placed into a travel suitcase.

Pise added that investigators have obtained “certain leads” and are working to verify them. Officials indicated that identifying the victim remains crucial to solving the case.

Investigation Progress

Police sources said that once her identity is confirmed, it will help trace her background and establish possible motives and suspects, significantly advancing the probe. The investigation is being conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Sandeep Karnik and other senior officials.

Following the recovery of the body, the Adgaon police registered a murder case against an unidentified person.
