Hemang Badani, the former Indian cricketer and current analyst, has shared his thoughts on Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 campaign, emphasizing that the team could have performed better. In an exclusive interview, Badani pointed out several areas where DC fell short, including missed opportunities, dropped catches, and narrow defeats that ultimately kept them out of the playoffs.
Missed Opportunities and Small Margins
Badani highlighted that the difference between success and failure in the IPL often comes down to small margins. He noted that Delhi Capitals lost several close matches that could have gone their way with better execution. “We had our chances, but we didn't grab them. Dropped catches and missed run-outs cost us crucial moments,” he said.
Impact of Injuries
The team was also plagued by injuries to key players throughout the season. Badani explained that the absence of certain players disrupted the balance of the squad. “Injuries are part of the game, but we had to constantly reshuffle the lineup, which affected our consistency,” he added.
Bowling Attack Structure
Badani emphasized the importance of wicket-taking bowlers in T20 cricket. He noted that while DC had some good spells, they lacked a consistent threat in the middle overs. “You need bowlers who can break partnerships. We relied too much on our overseas stars, but we need to develop local talent as well,” he stated.
Role of Overseas Stars
The overseas players played a significant role in structuring the bowling attack, but Badani believes that the team management could have utilized them better. “We have world-class overseas players, but we need to create a strategy that maximizes their impact,” he said.
Looking ahead, Badani is optimistic about DC's future but stressed the need for introspection. “We have a young and talented squad. If we learn from our mistakes, we can come back stronger next season,” he concluded.
