Indian Women's Cricket Team Returns to Action with Sri Lanka T20I Series

Fresh from their historic ICC Women's Cricket World Cup triumph, the Indian women's cricket team is set to return to international action on home soil. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that India will host Sri Lanka for a five-match T20 International series scheduled from December 21 to December 30, 2025.

Series Schedule and Venue Details

The bilateral series will be played across two prominent cricket venues in Southern India. The first two matches of the series will be held at the Visakhapatnam cricket stadium on December 21 and December 23. The teams will then move to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining three matches scheduled for December 26, December 28, and December 30.

This marks the first time since 2016 that the Sri Lankan women's team will play a T20I bilateral series in India. The last such encounter saw the Indian team secure a comprehensive 3-0 victory against their neighbors.

Series Context and Future Engagements

Originally, the Indian women's team was scheduled to play against Bangladesh during this period. However, due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries, the series was postponed, making way for the Sri Lanka tour instead.

This T20I series serves as an important preparatory tournament for the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, which is scheduled to run from January 9 to February 5. The WPL will be hosted at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium and Vadodara's Kotambi Stadium, ensuring no scheduling conflicts with international commitments.

Following the WPL, the Indian women's team has another significant challenge ahead. Just ten days after the WPL final, the team will travel to Australia for an all-format tour comprising three T20Is, three ODIs, and a Test match from February 15 to March 9.

The return of international women's cricket to Indian stadiums promises exciting action as the World Cup champions look to continue their winning momentum in the T20 format against a competitive Sri Lankan side.
