Indore's Holkar Stadium Braces for Run Fest in India vs New Zealand ODI

Cricket fans can expect another high-scoring spectacle at Indore's Holkar Stadium. The pitch is taking shape for the upcoming ODI clash between India and New Zealand. Known for producing big totals and rapid scoring, this venue looks set to live up to its reputation.

Pitch and Outfield in Prime Condition

Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association chief pitch curator Manohar Jamle shared details with TOI. He confirmed the outfield is in excellent condition. A thick carpet of green grass covers it, providing a lush playing surface.

Final work is underway on the match strip at the centre of the ground. The wicket is prepared on black soil. This surface historically offers true bounce and value for shots at this venue.

Curators shaped it as a typical ODI pitch. They aim for a contest that remains lively across all phases of the game. Jamle said preparations were made with the format and conditions in mind.

Expect a Run Fiesta

Jamle expressed confidence in the pitch's nature. "The Holkar Stadium pitch is famous for high-scoring games and this one too is prepared for a run fiesta," he stated. Final preparations for the pitch are ongoing, with curators doing the final touches.

He added that the pitch will be a black soil pitch prepared at the centre of the stadium. This should once again favour scoring, encouraging stroke play and keeping spectators engaged.

Dew Factor and Logistical Readiness

However, dew is expected to play a role during the evening. Indore is witnessing misty conditions during mornings and nights. Jamle acknowledged this challenge.

"Even though we took measures to control the dew, it is natural and cannot be controlled fully," he explained. The ground staff will be ready to use the dew-shedding rope between overs. This is especially important during the evening and night hours of the match.

Jamle also outlined the logistical preparations for the fixture. Around 75 ground staff have been trained to ensure smooth functioning on match day. Teams will have adequate practice facilities.

Three practice pitches for each team are prepared on both sides of the ground. These will be used for net sessions a day before the match. Both teams will be reaching Indore on Thursday afternoon, ready for the action.
