KSRTC bus overturns in Davanagere, 1 killed, 45 injured

A tragic road accident in Karnataka's Davanagere district on Friday claimed the life of a 23-year-old college student and left nearly 45 others injured after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus overturned. Police reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the mishap.

Victim identified

The deceased, Darshan, a resident of Kundru village in Honnali taluk, was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was traveling on the bus to attend college when the accident occurred near Marabanahalli in Channagiri taluk.

Injuries and hospitalisation

Most of the injured passengers sustained minor injuries and are being treated at a hospital in Davanagere. However, six individuals with grievous injuries have been shifted to Manipal Hospital for advanced medical care. The bus driver also sustained minor injuries.

Cause of accident

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have been triggered by a broken rear axle of the bus, which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to topple. A senior police officer confirmed this finding.

Local reaction

Following the incident, local residents gathered at the accident spot and expressed anger over the shortage of KSRTC buses on the route. Officials later managed to bring the situation under control.

Police action

Shekhar H Tekkannavar, Superintendent of Police, Davanagere, confirmed the details to PTI. A case has been registered against the bus driver for causing death by negligence, and a thorough investigation is underway.
