Kuldeep Yadav Opens Up About Career Journey and Team India Success
Kuldeep Yadav, the accomplished wrist spinner from Kanpur, has established himself as a fundamental pillar of India's spin bowling arsenal since his international debut. Known for his composed demeanor and unwavering team-first mentality, whether actively playing or supporting from the sidelines, Yadav recently shared profound reflections on his cricketing voyage, recent triumphs, and upcoming challenges during an exclusive interview at the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA).
Emotional Highs of Consecutive T20 World Cup Victories
When asked about the sensation of clinching two back-to-back T20 World Cup titles, Kuldeep Yadav expressed overwhelming gratitude and pride. "It's an absolutely incredible feeling," he remarked. "Merely representing the nation is a profound blessing, but to secure victories for India while adorned in the iconic blue jersey elevates that experience to something truly extraordinary."
Contrary to expectations, Yadav identified his initial foray into cricket as the most pivotal moment of his career, rather than the World Cup wins. "For me, the biggest moment was actually taking up cricket," he revealed. "I wasn't naturally inclined towards the sport initially, but my father recognized my potential and gently encouraged me. He enrolled me in a local academy, setting me on this incredible path. From those humble beginnings to progressing through various competitive levels and ultimately earning the honor of playing for India, it has been a remarkable journey. I feel immensely fortunate that my father guided me toward the right direction."
Heartfelt Moments and Team Camaraderie
Recalling the emotional highlights during India's triumphant T20 World Cup campaign, Yadav pinpointed a specific instance involving teammate Sanju Samson. "Watching Sanju Samson score those crucial runs during the knockout stages of the World Cup genuinely moved me," he shared. "I know him personally, and over the past year, he has been batting exceptionally well in T20 formats, even though team dynamics sometimes limited his opportunities. Witnessing him deliver under immense pressure and contribute significantly to India's victory was an incredibly special and emotional moment for all of us."
Strategic Preparations for IPL and ODI World Cup
Discussing his immediate focus, Kuldeep Yadav outlined his preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Delhi Capitals. "We possess a very robust and balanced squad that performed commendably last season," he stated. "On a personal level, my approach remains straightforward and focused — go out onto the field and consistently take wickets. That's always been my primary objective."
Looking further ahead, Yadav addressed preparations for the ODI World Cup, scheduled approximately 15-16 months from now. "Preparations will naturally intensify gradually, commencing with the England tour later this year," he explained. "I have been playing One Day Internationals for nearly nine years now, and it has proven to be a highly rewarding format for me. The ultimate aim is to replicate those consistent performances on the grandest stage of them all."
Throughout the conversation, Kuldeep Yadav's humility, dedication to continuous improvement, and deep appreciation for his teammates and family support shone brightly, underscoring why he remains an indispensable asset to Indian cricket.
