The 41-year-old driver was also scheduled to compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The statement from the Busch family said: "Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Richard Childress Racing Names Replacement
After the announcement, Richard Childress Racing confirmed that Austin Hill will replace Kyle Busch in the No. 8 Chevrolet for Sunday's Coca-Cola 600. Hill currently drives the No. 21 car for Richard Childress Racing in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and now receives a major opportunity at Charlotte.
Richard Childress Racing also released a full statement supporting Busch and his family during this difficult time. The team said: "Kyle Busch's health is our utmost priority, and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization, and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery."
The statement continued: "His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. We're thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family's privacy at this time."
Busch's Season and Career
Kyle Busch is currently 24th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He has recorded two top-10 finishes through the first 12 races of the season. The Las Vegas native won Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019 during his time with Joe Gibbs Racing before joining Richard Childress Racing in 2023.
