Model Garima Tiwari Files New Legal Complaint Against IPL Cricketer Amit Mishra in Kanpur Court
A 35-year-old model, Garima Tiwari, has lodged a new complaint in a Kanpur court against her husband, former IPL cricketer Amit Mishra, and his family members. The complaint accuses them of serious charges including dowry harassment, physical assault, and abetment to suicide, as confirmed by officials on Monday.
Details of the Allegations and Legal Proceedings
Tiwari submitted the complaint to the court of an Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) in Kanpur. She alleges enduring continuous physical and mental abuse from her husband and in-laws following their marriage. The named individuals in the complaint include Amit Mishra, his mother Beena Mishra, father Shashikant Mishra, brother Amar Mishra, sister-in-law Ritu Mishra, and sister Swati Mishra.
According to Tiwari, she and Mishra, who is now an officer at the Reserve Bank of India, connected on Instagram in 2019. Their relationship spanned nearly three years before they married on April 26, 2021, at the Kanpur Club. Shortly after the wedding, she claims that Mishra and his family began pressuring her family for dowry, demanding a Honda City car and Rs 10 lakh in cash.
Her family reportedly managed to provide Rs 2.5 lakh, but the demands persisted, as per a PTI report. Tiwari further alleges that Mishra assaulted her while intoxicated, subjected her to verbal abuse, occasionally deprived her of food, and confiscated money she earned from her modelling career. He allegedly threatened her with divorce, which she says led to severe depression and forced her to abandon her professional pursuits.
Escalation of the Situation and Previous Legal Actions
The situation escalated to the point where Tiwari attempted suicide by consuming phenyl, resulting in hospitalization. She asserts that she approached the police multiple times to report the incidents, but no First Information Report (FIR) was registered. She attributes this inaction to Mishra's influence, which ultimately prompted her to seek recourse through the court system.
Her lawyer, Karim Ahmad Siddiqui, stated that the complaint was filed after the police failed to take appropriate action. This marks Tiwari's third legal case against Mishra. Previously, she filed a domestic violence case on April 21, 2025, and a maintenance petition on April 23, 2025, seeking Rs 50,000 per month and Rs 1 crore in compensation.
The case highlights ongoing issues related to dowry harassment and domestic violence in India, drawing attention due to Mishra's public profile as a former IPL cricketer. The court proceedings are expected to proceed as authorities review the allegations and evidence presented.
