Norway Coach Hails 'Easy-Going Superstar' Haaland Ahead of FIFA World Cup

Norway's head coach Stale Solbakken has showered praise on his team's star striker Erling Haaland, describing him as an 'easy-going superstar' ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The Manchester City forward, who has been instrumental in Norway's qualification for the tournament after a 28-year absence, is known for his humility and team-first attitude.

Haaland's Humility Shines

Speaking to FIFA's official website, Solbakken said, 'Erling Haaland is a very easy guy to coach. He wants the best for the team, he loves to be with his teammates, and he loves to have fun with all the staff around the team. He is a very easy-going superstar.' The coach emphasized that despite Haaland's immense success and global fame, he remains grounded and focused on collective goals.

A Nation's Long Wait Ends

Norway secured their World Cup berth under Solbakken, who himself played in the 1998 tournament. The qualification sparked massive celebrations, with 50,000 fans braving freezing temperatures to welcome the team. 'I think it means a lot for the whole nation, especially the common supporter. I waited for this for a long time,' Solbakken said, recalling the emotional moment.

Dark Horse Tag: A Double-Edged Sword

Norway has been labeled a 'dark horse' to go deep in the tournament, placed in Group I alongside France, Senegal, and Iraq. However, Solbakken is cautious about such expectations. 'I do not think we are dark horses to get all the way. I think we are dark horses in terms of, on our day, we can maybe beat a stronger opponent. But to say that we are dark horses for the whole tournament is too far,' he explained.

Group Stage Challenges

The coach acknowledged the difficulty of their group, with France as the clear favorite. 'We are in a very hard group. Obviously, France is a big favourite, and then the other three countries have to fight for second place and third place. I think it will be very tight, and hopefully we have the organisation and the match-winners to get through,' he said.

Expressing Themselves on the World Stage

Solbakken wants his team to use the World Cup as a platform to showcase their style of play. 'For Norway, this is the World Cup to express themselves – to show the world that we play, maybe, a different kind of football than what we have done before, and that we are an offensive team with good individuals that work hard for each other,' he stated.

When asked about his ultimate goal, the coach kept his dreams private but added, 'Hopefully we can get the best out of the team, and on our day, we can beat anyone.'
