ODI World Cup Crown Gave Us Confidence to Win Titles Anywhere: Harmanpreet Kaur

India women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has emphasized that the historic ODI World Cup victory last year has infused the squad with immense confidence and self-belief, enabling them to aim for titles anywhere in the world. Speaking at a ceremony where a stand was named in her honor at the Omaxe Stadium in Dwarka, Kaur reflected on the transformative impact of winning India's maiden ICC title in November.

World Cup Win as a Turning Point

Kaur highlighted that achieving a major title was crucial for recognition and validation of the hard work put in by the team and past women cricketers. "In any field, you have to do something special, you have to win a title, only then do you get recognition. Otherwise, it feels like all the hard work goes to waste," she stated. She acknowledged the efforts of previous generations who often funded their own cricket journeys, making the World Cup triumph a significant milestone.

The captain noted that the positive response from fans, media, and the broader public following the ODI World Cup win has been a major boost for the team. This newfound belief is now driving their preparations for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled from June 12 to July 5 in the United Kingdom.

Focus on T20 World Cup and Learning from Australia Tour

Addressing the high expectations for the T20 World Cup, Kaur expressed determination, saying, "We'll try our best to win the T20 World Cup. The last World Cup gave us confidence, and now we have the belief that we can win the World Cup anywhere in the world." This statement underscores the team's evolved mindset post their ODI success.

Recently, India toured Australia for a multi-format series comprising three T20Is, three ODIs, and a one-off pink-ball Test. Although India lost the series 4-12 on points, Kaur viewed it as a valuable learning experience. "Such a multi-format series should happen because it gives you a lot of challenges. After every week, you have to play a different format, so I think this is a totally different experience," she explained.

She added that playing all three formats together was challenging but beneficial, as it tested the team's adaptability. The series began with India winning the T20Is 2-1, but they faced setbacks in the ODIs with a 0-3 loss and also lost the lone Test.

Emotional Moment at Stand Naming Ceremony

Kaur described the dedication of a stand in her name as an emotional moment, reflecting her contributions to Indian cricket. This honor comes at a time when the team is gearing up for international competitions, bolstered by their recent achievements.

As the Indian women's cricket team continues to build on their ODI World Cup success, the focus remains on leveraging this confidence to excel in future tournaments, starting with the T20 World Cup in the UK.
