Rishabh Pant Expresses Frustration After Lucknow's Batting Collapse in IPL 2026
A visibly shaken Rishabh Pant laid bare his frustration and disappointment following his side's dramatic batting collapse, admitting he had "no answers" after a crushing 40-run defeat in their IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals.
Batting Unit Fails to Adapt on Tricky Surface
Chasing a modest target of 160 runs, the Lucknow Super Giants folded for just 119, completely undone by a surface that offered significant movement and a disciplined bowling effort from the Rajasthan Royals. Pant did not shy away from accountability, directly calling out the batting unit for failing to adapt to the challenging conditions.
"I don't have answers. Batting has let us down. We are disappointed as a team, as a group," Pant said bluntly in the post-match presentation, his voice reflecting the team's collective frustration.
Pant Emphasizes Internal Responsibility and Introspection
The Lucknow skipper emphasized the need for introspection over external blame, making it clear that the responsibility for the performance lay firmly within the dressing room. He stressed that the team must look inward for solutions rather than seeking excuses elsewhere.
"You have to look for answers inside, not outside. We could have taken some time while batting. No excuses out there. Including myself, we could have taken it deeper. As a batting group, we have to put our hands up," Pant added, taking personal responsibility alongside his teammates.
Misreading Pitch Conditions Proves Costly
Pant admitted that misreading the pitch played a significant role in their downfall, with conditions favoring swing and seam movement that made fluent strokeplay extremely difficult. Despite the significant setback, the captain tried to strike a positive note, pointing to the potential and firepower within the squad that could still turn their season around.
"We have to look at positives. We have to keep our head high and look for answers inside. We have the firepower to turn the season around," Pant stated, attempting to maintain team morale despite the disappointing result.
Ravindra Jadeja's Calculated Innings Proves Decisive
Earlier in the match, Ravindra Jadeja played a decisive role with an unbeaten 43 runs, anchoring Rajasthan's innings on the same tricky pitch. Jadeja acknowledged the challenge posed by the surface, noting that it was crucial to bat deep as the ball was seaming and swinging consistently throughout the innings.
His calculated and patient approach ensured Rajasthan posted a competitive total that ultimately proved more than sufficient given the bowling conditions.
Rajasthan Royals Executed Their Plan Perfectly
Rajasthan skipper Riyan Parag revealed that his team had anticipated assistance from the pitch and praised the excellent execution from bowlers like Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger, who exploited the conditions effectively to restrict the Lucknow batting lineup.
Parag also opened up about dealing with personal challenges during the tournament, stating that the team has stood firmly behind him during a difficult phase, highlighting the strong team unity within the Rajasthan camp.
The comprehensive victory strengthens Rajasthan Royals' position in the tournament while leaving Lucknow Super Giants with serious questions to answer about their batting approach on challenging surfaces as the IPL 2026 season progresses.
