PCA and HPCA to Host Major Cricket Fixtures, Boosting Regional Profile
PCA, HPCA to Host Key Cricket Matches in Upcoming Months

Major Cricket Boost for Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Regions

In a significant development for cricket in northern India, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) are set to host a series of high-profile international and Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the coming months. This initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to the region's sports infrastructure, tourism, and grassroots cricket development.

HPCA's IPL Hosting Plans in Dharamsala

The HPCA stadium in Dharamsala will host three IPL matches this season, featuring Punjab Kings against Delhi Capitals on May 11, followed by matches against Mumbai Indians on May 14 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17. Arun Dhumal, IPL chairman, emphasized the importance of these fixtures, stating that they not only elevate the stature of the HPCA but also showcase Himachal Pradesh's scenic beauty to a global audience.

Dhumal highlighted the economic and tourism benefits, noting increased footfall that supports local businesses, hospitality, and transport sectors. He added that hosting top-tier cricket inspires young cricketers across the state, strengthening grassroots development and nurturing future talent from Himachal Pradesh.

Last year, the stadium faced challenges when a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was halted midway due to emergency sirens, leading to a major evacuation over fears of aerial attacks from Pakistan. Historically, RCB last played in Dharamsala during the 2024 edition, defeating Punjab Kings by 60 runs with Virat Kohli scoring 92, while MI's last match at the venue was in 2013, resulting in a 50-run win for Punjab.

PCA's International and IPL Fixtures in Mullanpur

Meanwhile, the Punjab Cricket Association will host key matches at the Maharaja Yadavindra Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The venue is scheduled to host its maiden Test match from June 6 to 9, with India playing against Afghanistan. Following this, on October 3, India will host West Indies in an ODI match, marking the stadium's first ODI hosting.

The stadium has already made strides in international cricket, having hosted its first-ever international match on September 14—an ODI between India and Australia women's teams. In December, it debuted in T20I cricket by hosting a clash between India and South Africa. Additionally, the stadium, home to Punjab Kings, will host four IPL matches this season: against Gujarat Kings on March 31, Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 11, Lucknow Super Giants on April 19, and Rajasthan Royals on April 28.

Amarjit Mehta, PCA president, expressed pride in these developments, stating that hosting a Test match and an ODI will take the PCA to new heights. He noted that the association has previously successfully hosted women's ODI and T20I matches, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allotting these fixtures to Punjab.

Elections and Future Prospects

In related news, the Punjab Cricket Association elections are scheduled for July 12 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. This event underscores the ongoing administrative efforts to strengthen cricket governance in the region.

Overall, the hosting of these key fixtures by PCA and HPCA represents a major step forward for cricket in northern India, promising enhanced visibility, economic growth, and inspiration for aspiring cricketers.
