Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off India’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind on July 17, announced Haryana Assembly Deputy Speaker Krishan Middha during a press conference in Jind. This event marks a historic milestone for the district and a significant step toward clean energy transportation in the country, adding a new chapter to the modernization of Indian Railways.
Hydrogen train launch and other inaugurations
Alongside the hydrogen train launch, the Prime Minister will inaugurate medical colleges at Bhiwani and Narnaul, and a 5.84-km elevated railway track at Kurukshetra built at a cost of around Rs 350 crore. The elevated track is expected to ease traffic congestion at major railway crossings in Kurukshetra town.
Middha stated that the Prime Minister will also dedicate the Ambala–Kala Amb four-lane greenfield corridor, the Haryana stretch of the Delhi–Katra Expressway, and projects related to the Jind–Gohana National Highway (NH-352A). These infrastructure projects are aimed at improving connectivity across the state and accelerating industrial and economic activity.
Development projects worth thousands of crores
The Deputy Speaker said the visit would give fresh momentum to Haryana’s development, significantly benefiting the road, rail, healthcare, and tourism sectors. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a modern Sikh Museum at Kurukshetra, featuring virtual galleries showcasing the history of all ten Sikh Gurus, a modern library, and a light-and-sound show to promote religious tourism.
Middha emphasized that the Prime Minister’s rally will be organized in an eco-friendly manner, with emphasis on public transport, fuel conservation, and environmental protection. The hydrogen-powered train itself represents a major leap in sustainable railway technology, aligning with India’s goals for green energy adoption.
Impact on clean energy and connectivity
According to Middha, these initiatives will not only enhance infrastructure but also reinforce the government’s commitment to clean energy. The hydrogen train project is part of Indian Railways’ broader plan to introduce hydrogen fuel-based trains on heritage and hilly routes, reducing carbon emissions. The combined investment in rail, road, and healthcare projects is expected to create jobs and boost local economies across Haryana.
