Rahane's Panthers Beat Suryakumar's Knights in Mumbai T20

The Ajinkya Rahane-led North Mumbai Panthers began their Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai League 2026 campaign with a convincing 21-run victory over Suryakumar Yadav's Triumph Knights Mumbai North East at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Panthers Set a Mammoth Target

Batting first on a placid surface, the Panthers posted the first 200-plus total of the season, finishing at 209 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Hardik Tamore was the star of the innings, scoring a fluent 67 off 43 balls, studded with nine fours and two sixes. He shared an opening stand of 67 runs with captain Rahane, who made a brisk 24 before departing. Aayush Zimare contributed 23, and Ayush Vartak added a valuable 39 in the middle overs. The late charge came from Tanush Kotian, who remained unbeaten on 30 off just 15 deliveries, propelling the Panthers past the 200-run mark. For the Knights, Sylvester Dsouza was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 23.

Knights Falter in Chase

Chasing a daunting target of 210, the Knights got off to a shaky start, losing both openers cheaply. India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav walked in to loud cheers and played positively, striking four boundaries as the Knights reached 56 for 2 at the end of the Powerplay. However, left-arm spinner Rahul Sawant turned the game in the Panthers' favour by dismissing Suryakumar for 19 and Sagar Mishra in quick succession. Harshal Jadhav and impact substitute Nutan Goel then attempted a recovery with a 55-run fifth-wicket stand. Nutan, aged 20, capitalized on a reprieve on 24 to bring up a 32-ball fifty with back-to-back sixes. He fought valiantly, scoring 93 off 56 balls, but the required rate kept climbing, and the Knights eventually finished on 188 for 8 in their 20 overs. Rahul Sawant ended with 2 for 34, while Harsh Tanna took 2 for 44.
