Rahul Dravid Among Contenders for England Test Coach Job: Report
Rahul Dravid Among Contenders for England Test Coach Job

Former India captain Rahul Dravid has emerged as a candidate to succeed Brendon McCullum as England's Test coach, following McCullum's dismissal after a disappointing run in the longest format, according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.

McCullum's Tenure Ends After Series Defeat

McCullum's four-year tenure as England Test coach ended after the team's 1-2 home series defeat to New Zealand. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated that "the time is right to make a change" ahead of next year's Ashes. McCullum will continue as head coach of the ODI and T20I sides.

Dravid's Candidacy and Coaching Profile

The 53-year-old Dravid, who guided India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and the 2023 World Test Championship final, is seen as an attractive candidate due to his "meticulous" approach and deep understanding of the game. However, the newspaper noted that Dravid has "no desire" to coach full-time. The report added: "Dravid has no desire to coach full-time, but the England Test job would allow him extended periods at home and the chance to help keep alive his favourite format of the game. England, at the very least, should gauge his interest."
