Ambati Rayudu Blasts CSK's Inflexible Bowling Strategy After Crushing IPL Defeat
Former Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu has launched a scathing critique of his former team's bowling approach following their substantial 43-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 season. Rayudu emphasized that a critical lack of adaptability and failure to reassess strategies in real-time proved devastating for the defending champions.
RCB's Batting Onslaught Exposes CSK's Defensive Flaws
The match at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium saw RCB post a formidable total of 250/3, placing immense pressure on CSK from the outset. The late innings assault from Tim David and Rajat Patidar proved particularly destructive, with the duo combining for a blistering 99-run partnership in just 35 deliveries. Despite a spirited batting response that saw CSK reach 207, they were eventually bowled out well short of the target.
Rayudu pinpointed the bowling unit's inability to adjust when the game began slipping away as the primary concern. "More than executing a bad plan, they stubbornly stuck to that flawed strategy throughout," Rayudu stated. "There was nobody to intervene, take a strategic timeout, or guide the bowlers with crucial adjustments. They should have deliberately slowed the game down to regain composure."
Death Bowling Collapse Highlights Tactical Deficiencies
The closing stages of RCB's innings exposed CSK's most significant weakness, with the home team hammering 97 runs in the final five overs. Rayudu observed that bowlers consistently failed to deliver effective follow-up deliveries after conceding boundaries. "Their responses after being hit for sixes or boundaries were inadequate," he explained. "Successful death bowlers always counter with quality deliveries, but CSK's bowlers lacked that crucial recovery ability."
While acknowledging some improvement in powerplay and middle-overs bowling compared to previous matches, Rayudu stressed that execution under pressure remains a persistent issue. "The awareness that the next ball matters most after conceding runs was conspicuously absent," he added.
RCB's Clinical Execution Contrasts Sharply With CSK's Struggles
Rayudu contrasted CSK's struggles with RCB's exemplary game management, noting that Bengaluru's fourth consecutive victory over Chennai demonstrated their superior tactical awareness. "RCB refuses to let any situation drift; they maintain control over every scenario and over," Rayudu remarked, highlighting the champions' methodical approach.
The former India international concluded that the decisive factor was RCB's superior in-game decision-making and execution under pressure, while CSK's rigid adherence to initial plans without mid-match adjustments allowed the match to slip away completely. This analysis underscores growing concerns about CSK's tactical flexibility as they navigate the competitive IPL 2026 season.
