The match drew an average audience of 5.2 million viewers, making it the most-watched FIFA World Cup knockout fixture in Canada, excluding previous World Cup finals. The figures are based on overnight audience data, with consolidated numbers expected after the tournament concludes.

FIFA Media stated on X: "A staggering 11.8 million Canadians tuned in to witness a history-making win on Sunday as Canada secured its first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout stage victory. Excluding previous FIFA World Cup finals, the triumph against South Africa is the most-watched FIFA World Cup knockout match in history in Canada, with a combined average audience of 5.2 million viewers."
Canada's Next Challenge: Morocco
Canada, co-hosts of the 2026 tournament, will face Morocco on July 4 in the Round of 16. Morocco advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands, winning 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Cody Gakpo gave the Netherlands the lead in the second half, scoring an emotional goal days after announcing the loss of his unborn child. However, Issa Diop's stoppage-time header forced extra time.
