Rinku Singh Appointed as Regional Sports Officer by Uttar Pradesh Government

In a significant development for Indian sports, star batter Rinku Singh has been appointed as a Regional Sports Officer by the Uttar Pradesh government. The 27-year-old cricketer expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his administration for this prestigious honor, which includes a financial award of ₹3 crore.

Gratitude and Commitment from the Cricketer

Through a video shared on the official X handle of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Rinku Singh conveyed his deep appreciation. "I am deeply grateful from the bottom of my heart to Chief Minister @myogiadityanath ji for honouring me with a sum of ₹3 crore and assigning me the responsibility of Regional Sports Officer," he stated. Due to his current commitments with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Rinku mentioned that he could not meet the Chief Minister in person. He plans to collect his appointment letter and meet CM Yogi Adityanath after the conclusion of the IPL season.

Rinku Singh's Rise to Stardom and Career Achievements

Rinku Singh catapulted to fame during IPL 2023 by hitting five consecutive sixes off Gujarat Titans' Yash Dayal in a thrilling chase for KKR. Since then, his career has soared with numerous accolades:

New Leadership Role in IPL 2026

Adding to his responsibilities, Rinku Singh has been named the vice-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. He will serve as deputy to Ajinkya Rahane, stepping into a leadership role previously held by Venkatesh Iyer, who was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7 crore ahead of the season.

During a program for distributing appointment letters and prize money to international medal-winning players, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted Uttar Pradesh's pioneering efforts. "UP is the first state in the country to give athletes priority in government service. So far, we have provided appointment letters to over 500 athletes for various police positions," he emphasized. The CM noted that Rinku Singh's appointment as Regional Sports Officer recognizes his outstanding performances in cricket and the Asian Games, among other athletes honored at the event.
