Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered a crushing 7-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2026 encounter, prompting a scathing response from RR's Riyan Parag. The all-rounder did not mince words, stating that if the team continues to lose matches in such a manner, they do not deserve to be in the top four of the tournament.
Parag's Blunt Assessment
Speaking after the match, Parag expressed his frustration with the team's performance. "If we keep losing like this, we shouldn't be in the top four. It's as simple as that. We are not playing good cricket, and we need to take responsibility," he said. The Royals were bowled out for a modest total, which the Capitals chased down with ease, thanks to a brilliant batting display.
Match Summary
Batting first, RR managed only 152 runs in their 20 overs, with Parag contributing a quickfire 35 off 22 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide support. In response, DC reached the target in 18.3 overs, losing just three wickets. Openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw laid a strong foundation, and Rishabh Pant finished the game with a six.
Parag emphasized the need for introspection. "We have to look at our mistakes and come back stronger. Every player needs to step up," he added. The loss has put RR's playoff qualification in jeopardy, as they now sit fourth in the points table with a negative net run rate.
Team's Struggles
RR have been inconsistent throughout the season, winning only six of their 12 matches. Their bowling attack, once considered their strength, has leaked runs in crucial games. Parag, who has been one of the few bright spots with both bat and ball, urged the team to stick together. "We have a few more games, and we need to win all of them. There's no other option," he concluded.
The defeat also highlighted RR's over-reliance on a few players. While Parag and Sanju Samson have performed well, the middle order has often crumbled under pressure. The team management will need to address these issues ahead of their next match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
