New Delhi: Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted by the Alipore Court in a cheque bounce case filed by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. The case, which had been ongoing for nearly four years, involved a cheque of Rs 1 lakh that Jahan claimed had bounced after being deposited in a bank.
Court Verdict and Acquittal
On Wednesday, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Alipore cleared Shami of all charges related to the cheque bounce case. Confirming the verdict, Shami's lawyer Salim Rahman stated, "Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been acquitted in the four-year-old case which was filed by his wife." Following the ruling, Shami expressed his confidence in the judicial process, saying, "I have paid every rupee that I was required to pay. Whether on or off the field, I always strive to handle every situation to the best of my ability."
Broader Legal Battle
The cheque bounce case is just one aspect of the long-running legal dispute between Shami and Hasin Jahan. In 2018, Jahan filed multiple complaints against Shami and his family members, including allegations regarding financial support and maintenance. Currently, under orders from the Calcutta High Court, Shami pays Rs 1.5 lakh per month to Jahan and an additional Rs 2.5 lakh monthly for the upbringing of their daughter. However, Jahan later approached the Supreme Court, arguing that the amount is insufficient to cover household expenses. During the hearing, the apex court questioned whether Rs 4 lakh per month was inadequate for the care of a mother and daughter.
Shami's Professional Career
Amid these legal proceedings, Shami continues to play for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He remains focused on his cricketing career while dealing with ongoing legal matters. Fans can stay updated with the latest IPL scores, news, schedules, and points table on the Times of India.
