Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Suryakumar Yadav conceded that his team was 10-15 runs short after a narrow defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The match, held at the Wankhede Stadium, saw MI fall short by six runs while chasing a target of 197.
MI's Batting Effort Falls Short
Chasing 197, Mumbai Indians managed 190 for 6 in their 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with a blistering 83 off 35 balls, but his efforts went in vain as the team fell short. Speaking after the match, Yadav said, "We were 10-15 runs short. We lost momentum in the middle overs and that cost us."
Powerplay and Middle Overs Analysis
MI got off to a flying start, scoring 60 runs in the powerplay. However, they lost quick wickets in the middle overs, which hampered their run chase. Yadav added, "We lost a couple of wickets in quick succession, and that set us back. We needed to build partnerships, but we couldn't."
Bowling Performance
Earlier, RCB posted 196 for 6, thanks to a brilliant 100 off 63 balls by Virat Kohli. MI bowlers struggled to contain the run flow, especially in the death overs. Yadav praised Kohli's innings, saying, "Kohli played a fantastic knock. We tried different options, but he was just too good."
Areas for Improvement
Yadav highlighted the need for improvement in death bowling and fielding. "We dropped a couple of catches, and that cost us. In a tight game, those small margins matter. We need to work on our fielding and bowling at the death," he said.
Despite the loss, Yadav remained optimistic about MI's chances in the tournament. "It's still early days. We have a strong squad, and we will bounce back. We need to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger," he concluded.
