A tragic incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the Vastad Balasaheb Gawade swimming pool in Chinchwad, where a 17-year-old youth drowned. The pool is managed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The deceased has been identified as Shravan Gaikwad, a resident of Rahatani.
Details of the Incident
According to Inspector Ranjit Jadhav of the Chinchwad police, the accident took place around 11 a.m. when Shravan had gone to the pool with his friends. He was in the process of learning to swim when he drowned. His friends noticed his absence and immediately alerted the lifeguards on duty.
Response and Aftermath
The lifeguards quickly retrieved Shravan from the water and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Inspector Jadhav confirmed that there were four lifeguards appointed by the contractors at the pool at the time of the incident.
The police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations. No foul play is suspected at this stage.
