A sudden thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain swept across several parts of the Hisar region on Monday, providing much-needed respite from the ongoing heatwave but also uprooting trees and causing temporary disruptions in some areas.
IMD Issues Immediate Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an immediate forecast at noon, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and dust storms with wind speeds of 40 to 60 km per hour over Hisar, Sirsa, and Fatehabad districts. The forecast also indicated the possibility of light rainfall at isolated places.
University Predicts Stormy Weather
The Department of Agricultural Meteorology at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University also released a short-term forecast, predicting that within the next three hours, districts including Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri could experience strong winds accompanied by thunder and lightning, with isolated light rainfall.
The forecast proved accurate as rain and dust storms swept through several areas. While the change in weather brought relief from the prevailing heat, strong gusty winds and reduced visibility led to temporary disruptions in affected areas.
Impact on Daily Life
The storm uprooted trees in various parts of Hisar, causing some damage to property and blocking roads. Power outages were reported in some localities due to fallen branches. However, no casualties were reported, and authorities worked quickly to clear debris and restore normalcy.
Residents welcomed the rain as a break from the scorching heat that had gripped the region in recent weeks. The maximum temperature in Hisar had been hovering around 45 degrees Celsius, and the sudden drop brought significant relief.
Weather Outlook
Meteorologists predict that the weather may remain unsettled for the next 24 hours, with chances of further thundershowers. Farmers have been advised to take precautions as the storm could affect standing crops in some areas.
