Ahmedabad Implements Traffic Restrictions for T20 World Cup Final at Motera Stadium

In preparation for the highly anticipated ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final, the Ahmedabad city police have announced comprehensive traffic restrictions and route diversions around the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. These measures, set to take effect on Sunday, March 8, are designed to manage the expected large crowds of spectators and ensure the smooth and secure movement of VVIPs, players, and officials during the event.

Key Details of the Traffic Order

A formal notification issued on Thursday by City Police Commissioner G S Malik under the Gujarat Police Act, 1951, outlines the restrictions. The traffic controls will be enforced from 10 am to midnight on March 8, extending from midnight to 2 am on March 9 to regulate post-match traffic flow effectively. This proactive approach aims to prevent congestion and maintain public safety throughout the event and its aftermath.

Specific Road Closures and Authorized Access

The stretch from the Janpath T-junction to the stadium's main gate, passing through the Krupa Residency T-junction up to Motera village, will be completely off-limits for general traffic. Only authorized vehicles equipped with valid passes will be permitted to enter the immediate vicinity of the stadium. This restriction is crucial for controlling access and minimizing disruptions in the area.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

To facilitate smooth travel for the public, police have announced detailed alternative routes. Vehicles traveling from Tapovan Circle are advised to take the ONGC crossroads route via Visat T-junction, Janpath T-junction, and AEC Powerhouse crossroads up to Prabodh Raval Circle. Additionally, traffic can be rerouted from the Krupa Residency T-junction through Sharan Status Crossroads and Bhat-Koteshwar Road towards Apollo Circle. These diversions are expected to help manage the surge in vehicular movement around the stadium.

Exemptions and Enforcement Measures

Emergency services, including ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, and police units, are exempt from these restrictions to ensure rapid response capabilities. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against any violators of the order. To enforce these measures and assist commuters, additional police personnel will be deployed at key junctions throughout the city. This deployment is aimed at managing the anticipated increase in traffic and maintaining order during the event.

The implementation of these traffic restrictions underscores the city's commitment to hosting a successful and secure T20 World Cup final, balancing the needs of spectators, officials, and local residents.
