Two separate road accidents in Ludhiana district claimed two lives on Wednesday, leaving families shattered. A 23-year-old man on a pilgrimage and a hotel chef were the victims.
First Incident: Biker Dies in Crash on GT Road
In the first incident, Jitender Singh, 23, a resident of Partap Singh Road, Haibowal, Ludhiana, died in a road accident near Manji Sahib on GT Road, about 25 km from Ludhiana. He was heading to Shri Hemkund Sahib on his motorcycle with a group of around 30 men from Ludhiana.
According to police, his bike went out of control and struck a roadside railing. The impact was severe, causing fatal neck injuries. Jitender died on the spot. He worked as an electrician and was the sole breadwinner for his family, who lived in a rented house.
ASI Karamjit Singh stated that based on family statements, police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Second Incident: Chef Killed in Hit-and-Run
In another incident, Ramesh Kumar Thapa, a hotel chef from Khasi Kalan, died in a hit-and-run accident on Tajpur Road in Ludhiana. The suspect driver fled the scene.
Ramesh worked as a chef at Lark dhaba. After finishing his shift around midnight, he was returning home on his Honda Activa when an unknown speeding vehicle hit him. His family found his mangled scooter on the road the next morning.
His wife, Saraswati, said Ramesh was the family's breadwinner. His two daughters are married, and his son lives in Dubai. Based on a statement from his daughter Lakshmi, police registered a case against the unidentified driver and launched an investigation.
