Rajasthan Royals' teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set his sights on achieving a historic milestone in T20 cricket: becoming the first player ever to score a double century in the shortest format of the game. The 15-year-old prodigy openly declared his ultimate ambition during a candid interaction on former England captain Kevin Pietersen's popular YouTube show 'The Switch'.
Breaking Chris Gayle's Record
Speaking on the show, the swashbuckling left-handed batsman claimed that he wants to break the record of legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle, who scored the highest individual T20 score of 175 runs in 2013 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. "I want to score 200 in T20," Sooryavanshi said. When Pietersen reminded him of Gayle's record, he responded, "Yeah, I want to break his record and score 200. If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record."
Impressing Kevin Pietersen
During the show, Pietersen challenged the opening batter to score 100 runs off 50 deliveries. In a sensational display of ball-hitting, the southpaw scored 100 runs in just 25 balls, showcasing the same form that has seen him take on international bowlers in the IPL. Sooryavanshi, who has a highest T20 score of 144, also scored a stunning match-winning knock of 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England.
Record-Breaking Feats
The Bihar-born batter holds the record for the fastest century in youth ODI cricket, where he reached his century in just 52 deliveries against England. After his record-breaking innings against England U19 in the final, he said, "I will try to score 200 in the next match. I will try to play the full 50 overs. The more I score, the more the team will benefit."
