India's head coach has revealed the reason behind Vaibhav Sooryavanshi not making his international debut during the recently concluded T20I series against Ireland. The young all-rounder was part of the squad for the three-match series but did not get a game, sparking curiosity among fans and analysts.
Coach's Explanation
Speaking to the media after the series, the coach stated that the decision was made to ensure Sooryavanshi is fully prepared for the demands of international cricket. "Vaibhav is a talented player with a bright future, but we felt he needed a bit more time to acclimatize to the team environment and the pressures of international cricket," the coach said. "We have a long-term plan for him, and rushing him into debut wouldn't have been in his best interest."
Workload Management
The coach also highlighted workload management as a key factor. "With a packed schedule ahead, including the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup, we have to manage the workload of our players carefully. Vaibhav has been playing a lot of domestic cricket, and we wanted to avoid burnout," he explained. Sooryavanshi has been in impressive form in domestic tournaments, scoring 450 runs and taking 12 wickets in the recent season.
Future Prospects
The coach assured that Sooryavanshi remains in the selectors' plans. "He is definitely on our radar. We will look to give him opportunities in the right series, possibly during the home season later this year. The door is very much open for him," the coach added. Sooryavanshi himself took the decision positively, stating that he respects the team management's call and is working hard to earn his cap.
Impact on Team Dynamics
The decision also reflects the team's depth, with several all-rounders competing for spots. India's bench strength has been a talking point, and the coach emphasized that healthy competition is beneficial. "We have a pool of talented players, and it's a good problem to have. Everyone needs to be patient and wait for their turn," he said. The series against Ireland saw India win 2-0, with the third match abandoned due to rain.
