Railways grants halt for Vande Bharat Express at Nangal Dam
The Union Ministry of Railways has officially approved a scheduled stop for the Amb-Delhi Vande Bharat Express at Nangal Dam railway station in Punjab. This decision addresses a long-pending demand from local residents and commuters who have sought improved rail connectivity with the national capital.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conveyed the approval in a letter addressed to BJP state vice-president Subhash Sharma. In the letter, the minister confirmed that the Railways had accepted Sharma's representation requesting a halt for the semi-high-speed train at Nangal Dam.
Landmark decision for the region
Subhash Sharma released the minister's letter to the media on Wednesday, describing the approval as a landmark decision for the region. He thanked Vaishnaw for responding positively to what he called a long-standing public demand. Sharma noted that residents of Nangal and adjoining areas had been seeking the halt for years, repeatedly urging the Railways to include the station in the Vande Bharat Express route.
According to Sharma, the Nangal Dam railway station serves thousands of passengers, including employees, students, traders, pilgrims, and tourists from the Nangal-Anandpur Sahib belt as well as neighbouring areas of Himachal Pradesh. The Vande Bharat halt, he said, would substantially improve travel convenience for these commuters while strengthening connectivity for business, tourism, and pilgrimage.
Improved connectivity and faster travel
The decision is expected to provide faster and more comfortable rail access to Delhi for residents of the region. The Amb-Delhi Vande Bharat Express has emerged as one of the fastest rail links between Himachal Pradesh and the national capital, and the new halt will extend its benefits to a wider population.
Sharma added that the Railways is expected to notify the operational date and revised timetable incorporating the Nangal Dam halt shortly. Once implemented, the stop will enhance accessibility for thousands of daily travellers and boost regional economic activity.
