Christian Eriksen has released his first public statement since collapsing on the pitch during Denmark's Euro 2020 opening match against Finland on Saturday. The Inter Milan midfielder assured fans that he is 'fine' under the circumstances and is undergoing further examinations at the hospital.
Eriksen's Statement
In a brief statement issued through the Danish Football Union (DBU), Eriksen said: 'Thank you for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family. I'm fine under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay.'
Medical Response
The 29-year-old collapsed just before half-time in the match at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Medical staff rushed onto the field and performed CPR before he was taken to Rigshospitalet. He was later reported to be awake and stable.
UEFA and the Danish team have praised the quick response of the medical team. The match resumed after a 90-minute delay, with Finland winning 1-0.
Support from Football World
Messages of support have poured in from across the football community, including from players, clubs, and fans. Eriksen's teammates have visited him in the hospital, and the Danish squad has been offered psychological support.
Denmark's next match is against Belgium on Thursday. It remains unclear if Eriksen will be able to play again in the tournament or in his career.
