The Malahi Pakri metro station in Patna is expected to open for the public by the end of May 2026. Following a successful trial run conducted on April 27, the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) is now awaiting final written approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) to commence commercial operations at the station.
Station Details and Location
Situated in the bustling Kankarbagh area, Malahi Pakri is an elevated station on Corridor II, also known as the Blue Line. The station has been fully completed in terms of civil, structural, electrical, and safety works. A trial run was recently conducted between Bhoothnath and Malahi Pakri, covering a distance of 2.9 kilometers, including Khemnichak. This trial was carried out under the supervision of CMRS and experts from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The successful trial has linked the new section with the existing operational route from Bhoothnath to Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT).
Awaiting CMRS Approval
According to PMRC spokesperson Archana Khushi, once the CMRS approval is received for operations between ISBT and Malahi Pakri, the station will be opened for passengers. The station is equipped with CCTV surveillance, security deployment, baggage screening, ticketing facilities, lifts, escalators, stairways, and wall art installations.
Impact on Commuters
The opening of Malahi Pakri will complete the 6.5-kilometer elevated priority corridor connecting Malahi Pakri to New ISBT via Khemnichak, Bhootnath, and Zero Mile. This is expected to ease congestion along Bypass Road, Kankarbagh, and adjoining areas, while significantly improving connectivity for daily commuters. Currently, metro services operate between Bhootnath and ISBT over a 3.6-kilometer stretch, with daily ridership ranging between 4,500 and 8,000 passengers.
Progress at Khemnichak Station
Work is also progressing at the Khemnichak station, which is expected to be completed within six months. Khemnichak will serve as a major interchange between the Blue Line and Red Line. It will feature four entry and exit points, multiple lifts and escalators, and platforms at two levels to facilitate smooth transfers. This will strengthen the city's metro network and improve overall connectivity.
In addition to the metro developments, residents can also check gold and silver rates, bank holidays, public holidays, air quality index (AQI), and weather updates for Patna through various local sources.
