A coach of the Vande Bharat Express derailed near Pune railway station on Monday evening, railway officials said. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm when the Mumbai CSMT–Solapur train was passing over a diamond crossing close to a platform. Officials confirmed that one trolley of the fourth coach went off the track, but no passengers were injured in the mishap.
Ongoing Yard Remodelling Work
The affected section is part of ongoing yard remodelling work at Pune station, and authorities said the crossing is being replaced on priority as part of safety upgrades. Passengers were safely deboarded and moved to another rake for onward travel.
Safety Measures Underway
Railway officials added that non-standard diamond crossings are being phased out across the network as part of long-term safety measures. This incident highlights the need for continued infrastructure improvements to ensure passenger safety.
The Vande Bharat Express, which runs between Mumbai CSMT and Solapur, is one of India's premier train services. The derailment caused temporary disruption, but services were quickly restored after passengers were transferred to an alternate rake. No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway.
