DC IPL 2026 Retentions: Full List of Players Delhi Capitals Kept & Released
DC IPL 2026: Complete Retained & Released Players List

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have begun their strategic overhaul for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, making crucial decisions on their squad following a narrowly missed playoff opportunity in 2025. The franchise, which finished fifth in the standings, is now shaping its team for the upcoming auction with a mix of key retentions and calculated releases.

DC's 2025 Campaign: A Story of Promise and Fade

The 2025 IPL season was a tale of two halves for the Delhi Capitals. The campaign promised much initially with a spectacular start of four consecutive wins. However, the momentum sharply declined as the tournament progressed. The team managed to secure only three victories from their final ten fixtures, which ultimately led to a fifth-place finish. The most agonizing part of their season conclusion was finishing just one point behind the fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, missing a playoff spot by the slimmest of margins.

Core Retentions and Squad Stability

Despite the disappointing end to their 2025 season, the Delhi Capitals management has shown faith in the core group of players. Contrary to swirling rumors, the franchise is expected to stand by their star top-order batter KL Rahul, who was heavily linked with a move to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The team has also secured the services of dynamic players like Tristan Stubbs, whose potential transfer to Rajasthan Royals in a swap deal for Sanju Samson was a major talking point. That possibility was closed when Samson moved to the Chennai Super Kings in a separate trade involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

Other crucial retentions include Axar Patel, who captained the side last season, premier spinner Kuldeep Yadav, emerging talent Sameer Rizvi, and to a certain extent, pace spearhead Mitchell Starc. This indicates DC's strategy of building around a stable core while identifying specific areas for improvement.

Strategic Trades and Auction Targets

Delhi Capitals have already made one significant move in the trading window, bringing in Nitish Rana from the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4.2 crore. This transaction saw Donovan Ferreira moving the other way to facilitate the deal.

As the team looks ahead to the IPL 2026 auction, their shopping list is clear. The management will be actively searching for a reliable opener to replace the out-of-form Jake Fraser-McGurk. During the 2025 season, DC experimented with various combinations, trying Abishek Porel, Faf du Plessis, and Fraser-McGurk at the top before eventually settling on Rahul to open alongside Du Plessis.

Another area of concern is the bowling department, where Delhi will be eyeing a replacement for T. Natarajan, who has proven to be an injury-prone asset over the past few seasons. The team needs consistent firepower in their pace attack to complement their spin strengths.

IPL 2026 Retention Rules and Financials

Unlike mega auction years, the retention rules for IPL 2026 provide franchises with greater flexibility. Teams can retain as many players as they wish, with the requirement to eventually have 25 players in their squad. The purse for each franchise for the upcoming season is expected to be around Rs 120 crores, giving DC significant financial muscle to address their weaknesses in the auction.

The released players list begins with Donovan Ferreira, with more names expected to be revealed shortly as the franchise finalizes its strategy for the IPL 2026 player auction.
