Kaif's Blunt Assessment
Mohammad Kaif, known for his elite fielding during his playing days, did not hold back. He posted on Sunday night: "It's painful to watch the fielding in this IPL. Today Yash Raj dropped KL when he was on zero. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi too misfielded. The young boy hasn't taken a catch this season. While playing for India he needs to be sharper on the field. It is the duty of coaches to teach youngsters fielding skills. On their part, the boys should enjoy fielding and take pride in it."
Rajasthan Royals' Fielding Woes
Kaif's comments came on a day when Rajasthan Royals faltered again in the field during their five-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Captain Riyan Parag admitted that fielding lapses, along with bowling inconsistencies, cost his side dearly.
"Very poor. You've got to be better than what we've done today. Extremely disappointed," Parag said. He stressed that RR failed to capitalize on a strong platform and allowed the game to slip away in both execution and energy. "We were in a pretty good space after 14 overs... it had to be 220-230," he noted about their batting failures, adding that both bowling and fielding standards were "not up to the mark."
Parag did not shy away from responsibility, stating that repeated underperformance in recent matches has left the franchise in a must-win situation in their remaining games to stay alive in the playoff race.
