Jhansi police on Saturday arrested three individuals from Nagra Hatt for their involvement in an illegal Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket. Authorities froze over Rs 25 lakh in cash and seized virtual coins valued at Rs 2 lakh during the operation.
Details of the Arrest
According to police officials, the raid was conducted based on a tip-off. The three accused have been identified as Neeraj Niranjan (37), Dilip Singh alias Vijay (40), and Harendra Singh Parihar alias Lalla (36), all residents of Nagra, which falls under the Prem Nagar police station jurisdiction.
Police revealed that the names of these individuals came to light during the interrogation of the main accused, Brijendra Rajput, who was arrested earlier and is believed to be the mastermind of the betting racket.
Modus Operandi
The accused were using an online website created exclusively for IPL betting. The entire operation was managed through various WhatsApp groups, where clients were added to place bets. Police are investigating further to identify other individuals involved in the network.
Police Statement
SSP Jhansi, BBGTS Murthy, stated, “Strict measures are being taken against illegal networks and activities. Apart from recovering Rs 25.50 lakh today, in the past two weeks we have arrested 27 people involved in betting, freezing virtual coins worth Rs 16.30 crore, and have recovered Rs 3 lakh in cash.”
The police continue to crack down on illegal betting operations in the region, emphasizing their commitment to curbing such activities. Further investigations are underway to trace additional suspects and dismantle the entire network.
