In a spectacular display of power hitting, Ryan Rickelton smashed a breathtaking 123 off just 55 balls to guide Mumbai Indians (MI) to a formidable total of 243 for 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The left-handed opener's innings was a masterclass in aggression, featuring 10 boundaries and 8 towering sixes, as he single-handedly dismantled the SRH bowling attack.
Rickelton's Dominance
Rickelton, who was playing only his second IPL match, announced his arrival on the big stage with a stunning knock. He reached his half-century in just 27 balls and accelerated rapidly, bringing up his hundred off 48 deliveries. His innings was characterized by clean striking and innovative shot-making, leaving the SRH bowlers clueless. The South African batsman found able support from Suryakumar Yadav, who contributed a quickfire 45 off 28 balls, and Tilak Varma, who remained unbeaten on 38 off 18.
MI's Batting Explosion
After being put into bat, MI got off to a flying start as Rickelton and Ishan Kishan (22 off 14) added 56 runs in the powerplay. After Kishan's dismissal, Rickelton took charge, punishing every bowler with disdain. He particularly targeted the spinners, using his feet to great effect. The middle order capitalized on the foundation, with Suryakumar and Tilak adding quick runs in the death overs. MI smashed 98 runs in the final six overs, with Tilak hitting three sixes off the last over from Pat Cummins.
SRH's Bowling Struggles
SRH's bowling attack, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pat Cummins, had no answer to Rickelton's onslaught. Bhuvneshwar was the most economical, conceding 42 runs in his four overs, but Cummins went for 58 runs in his four overs. The spinners, including Washington Sundar and Mayank Markande, were also taken to the cleaners. SRH's fielding was sloppy, with a couple of dropped catches that proved costly.
In reply, SRH were never in the chase and were bowled out for 185 in 18.3 overs, handing MI a comprehensive 58-run victory. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for MI, taking 3 for 28. Rickelton was adjudged the Player of the Match for his scintillating hundred.
