Shubman Gill etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player to smash 100 sixes for Gujarat Titans during their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The GT skipper's explosive knock of 43 off just 18 balls powered his team's chase after the bowlers had set the tone by bundling out RCB for 155 in 19.2 overs.
Earlier in the evening, Gujarat Titans' bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj leading the charge. They restricted RCB to a modest total, setting up a straightforward chase for the hosts.
Gill's Record-Breaking Innings
Walking out after RCB were bowled out for 155, the GT skipper wasted no time asserting control. He got going immediately, striking a four and a six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the opening over to set the tone. But it was the second over that truly defined his intent. Facing Josh Hazlewood, Gill unleashed a stunning assault, hammering 24 runs in the over. The sequence of 4, 4, dot, 6, 4, 6 showcased a mix of authority and elegance as he dismantled one of RCB's premier bowlers with ease.
From stepping out to carve boundaries over the off side to launching clean hits down the ground, Gill looked in complete control. One flick over deep backward square leg for six, followed by a composed walk and a glance at the fielders, underlined the confidence he carried at the crease.
Historic Milestone
That six was Gill's 100th for GT, making him the first player to reach the milestone for the franchise. The next most sixes for Gujarat Titans is 69 by Sai Sudharsan, highlighting Gill's dominance with the bat. His rapid 35 off just 10 balls is now the highest score by a Gujarat Titans batter in the first 10 deliveries of an innings, surpassing the previous record held by Hardik Pandya.
Hazlewood's Expensive Over
The 24-run over also marked Josh Hazlewood's joint-most expensive in IPL history, emphasizing the extent of Gill's dominance. He was eventually dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar after scoring 43 off just 18 balls, leaving the Titans in a strong position.
