Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel admitted that his team fell 10-15 runs short against Chennai Super Kings, leading to an 8-wicket defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Wednesday.
Chasing 168, CSK reached the target with 11 balls to spare, riding on Ruturaj Gaikwad's unbeaten 50 and Shivam Dube's 51. Axar, who scored 38 off 23 balls, felt DC's total was not enough.
"We were about 10-15 runs short. The wicket was good and we could have scored more. We lost early wickets and couldn't build partnerships," Axar said at the post-match press conference.
DC were restricted to 167/7, with Prithvi Shaw (24) and David Warner (19) getting starts but failing to convert. Axar's late blitz helped them cross 160.
"We need to bat better in the powerplay and middle overs. Our bowlers tried hard but the target wasn't big enough," he added.
With this win, CSK climbed to third in the points table, while DC remained in sixth place. Axar emphasized the need for improvement in the upcoming matches.
